An app that displays 3D models of historical monuments won the first international hackathon, KreativHack OUTech, which concluded on Friday. International teams of students from eight universities participated in the competition.
The first KreativHack OUTech hackathon, held at the Opole University of Technology on Wednesday, focused on using modern technologies to preserve and disseminate knowledge about national heritage. The event was organized as part of the European alliance KreativeEU.
Six teams, composed of students from various universities and countries, were tasked with developing a proposal that combined artificial intelligence with history and tradition. The team members didn't know each other beforehand, so they also had to overcome language and cultural barriers between their countries.
As announced by the competition organizer, Dr. Anna Bryniarska from PO, the winner of the first edition of the hackathon was the work of the HarmonAI team, which developed an AR application that allows for displaying 3D models of historical buildings and artifacts anywhere.
"I can say that the participants performed at a very high level, much higher than I could have even expected. I'm very pleased with how they handled such a difficult task in such a short time," admitted Dr. Bryniarska.
According to Yuri Holovka from Opole University of Technology, who was a member of the winning team, thanks to cooperation with students from other countries, it was possible not only to test their knowledge of computer science and graphics, but also the history of places and events from hundreds, or even thousands, of years ago.
