Although British beaches dominated the rankings, the picturesque La Salie beach, near La Teste-de-Buch on the Bay of Biscay in France, took first place, with a score of over 90 out of 100. While it's not considered the most beautiful beach in the world, its wide expanses of sand, lack of crowds, and pine forest surroundings add to its charm.

What sets it apart is its very positive attitude towards animals. According to Beach Atlas, the southern part of the beach is open to pets, making it a popular choice among pet owners. This is especially true given that it's one of the few such areas in the area.

In second place was Portugal's Praia do Cabedelo beach in Darque. It's long and sandy. It's peaceful, but owners should remember to keep their pets on a leash.

The third most dog-friendly beach in Europe is located at Holkham National Nature Reserve in Norfolk, England . As Time Out describes, Holkham Beach is horse- and dog-friendly year-round. However, please note that between April and August, some areas may be closed to dog walkers due to bird nesting grounds.

Next on the list are Saunton Beach in Braunton, Devon, and Rhossili Bay in Swansea, Wales, which rounds out the top five. Brancaster Beach in Norfolk and Perranporth Beach in Cornwall also make the list. The British dominance was broken by Denmark's Fanø, located on the island of the same name off the coast of southwest Jutland. Rounding out the top ten are Watergate Bay near Newquay on the Cornish Peninsula and the Irish beach of Enniscrone.
