Tragedy on a foreign vacation. A valued Polish doctor has died.

On June 22, while diving in Lake Attersee in Austria, Dr. Agnieszka Lis died – an outstanding psychiatrist from Toruń, a person dedicated to her work, full of empathy and passion. What was supposed to be another adventure ended in tragedy, the details of which were revealed after a thorough analysis of the rescue operation.

According to official information from the Austrian Water Rescue Service (ÖWR Wasserrettung Oberösterreich), the 50-year-old Polish woman and her instructor had dived to a depth of around 100 metres. Complications arose at 60 metres, forcing them to immediately surface.

Unfortunately, at some point the instructor lost sight of her. The search was limited by strict safety procedures at such depths. Dr. Lis's body was found the next day - lying at a depth of 119 meters.

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our colleague Agnieszka. Dr. Agnieszka Lis has been associated with Toruń psychiatry for over 20 years. Since the beginning of 2025, she has been a coordinator in the Clinical Department of Old Age Psychiatry. She was an extremely kind, empathetic doctor, dedicated to her work and patients. Her death was sudden and unexpected, she died pursuing her greatest passion. She will remain in our hearts forever - Dr. Lis said goodbye to the L. Rydygier Provincial Hospital in Toruń on Facebook.
