PLN 82 regardless of earnings. New contribution for nurses raises controversy

- PLN 82 - this is the new monthly contribution paid by nurses and midwives to the local government
- Nurses earning extra money during their retirement pay attention to the fact that despite earning several hundred zlotys, they pay the full amount and not proportionally to their earnings as before.
- - Colleagues who are still working after retirement can take full advantage of their rights and privileges provided by the local government - says Mariola Łodzińska
- Following a wave of criticism, the president of the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives notified the Professional Liability Ombudsman
From April 2025, the rules for paying and the amount of the membership fee for the professional self-government of nurses and midwives have changed. At the moment, it is 1% of the average salary in the national economy for the previous year. In 2025, it is PLN 82 per month. These changes were approved during last year's Extraordinary National Congress of Nurses and Midwives.
Previously, the contribution varied depending on the form of employment. In the case of an employment contract, it was 1% of basic salary.
Nurses of retirement age who still work, but part-time, draw attention to the unification of the fee and the new basis for its calculation.
They emphasize that despite earning several hundred złoty, they must pay the full contribution, like other full-time employees. And not proportionally to the earnings, as was the case so far.
The new contribution has sparked a wave of critical comments on social media. In one case, the president of the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives filed a notice with the Professional Liability Advocate.
- These were absolutely unacceptable comments. We have a code of ethics. Every nurse, nurse practitioner, midwife and obstetrician should know and follow this code. Constructive criticism, insults, even outpouring hate, these are different stories - explains Mariola Łodzińska, president of the National Nurses and Post-Secondary Care Association.
- I am outraged that a nurse can talk about another nurse in this way, what kind of organization is the local government about? Attacking the good name of the organization, the good name of our community is unacceptable. I could not ignore the statement, which was scandalous to me. It is read not only by nurses, but also by patients. It discredits our community, our organization, weakens our position, which as the president I cannot allow - she adds.
Nurses and midwives contributionThe head of the local government admits that "the contribution is always a very hot topic, but according to the regulations, the national congress has the right to change it."
- Not the Łódź Council, not the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives. It was a congress where almost 400 people voted. Of course, not everyone was in favor, but the majority decided to unify the contribution. When the contribution increases, it raises objections. We saw this in the case of doctors, when it was increased by 100 percent from PLN 60 to PLN 120. There were also critical voices - says the president.
- Colleagues who are still working in retirement can take full advantage of their rights and privileges provided by the local government. Social assistance, conference subsidies, insurance, access to the virtual reading room and many others, and they paid a much lower contribution. It was not proportional to the fees paid by other members of the local government. That is why the congress made a decision and voted on changes to unify it. I understand that not everyone may like it, but there will be another congress, a reporting and election congress, this can always be changed - adds Łodzińska.
