Rapini, also known as broccoli Rabe, is taking Polish stores by storm. This Mediterranean vegetable delights not only with its taste, but also with its wealth of nutrients. It contains valuable vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Find out why it is worth including rapini in your daily diet and how to best prepare it.

Rapini (Brassica rapa) is an annual vegetable from the cruciferous family, a close relative of turnips and Chinese cabbage - lists the portal Ekologia.pl. Although it resembles broccoli, pointed leaves form around edible green stalks (reaching up to 35 cm).

The aforementioned leafy vegetable has a nutty flavor with a slight hint of bitterness, which is often compared to almonds . Smaker.pl notes that rapini goes well with various salads, sauces and smoothies.

Nutritional properties of rapini

Rapini are rich in fiber and contain high levels of vitamin K. They also contain large amounts of vitamin A, which strengthens the skeletal system and stimulates the immune system, as well as moisturizes the mucous membranes, prevents skin aging and retinal degeneration.

The Ekologia.pl portal lists the following nutrients in rapini:

  • vitamin C,
  • folic acid,
  • iron,
  • calcium,
  • antioxidants.

In summary, regular consumption of rapini helps reduce bad cholesterol levels, stabilizes blood sugar levels and contains plenty of antioxidants that protect against the negative effects of free radicals.

Importantly, rapini regulates the rhythm of bowel movements, slows down the emptying of the stomach. It is an ideal complement to the diet for people struggling with gastrointestinal ailments, as explained by Smaker.pl.

You can't buy it in the US - it's banned. In Poland it's available without any problems.
