Pole in Albania near death. An extraordinary intervention by Polish female operators 112

On Monday, the Governor of Warmia and Mazury, Radosław Król, thanked the operators of the 112 number for "not being indifferent".

- Thanks to you, the man whose life was in danger is now in a Polish hospital and alive - said Król.

The incident took place on June 4. The emergency number 112 in Olsztyn was called by a Polish woman who reported that her husband was feeling very bad, had high blood pressure and was not responding to the medication he had with him. She added that she did not know how to call an Albanian ambulance and could not communicate with the reception staff. She did not receive support from the Polish carer in Albania - he advised her to call 112.

After receiving an unusual call, the 112 operator from Olsztyn called the hotel reception and tried to say in English that the guest from Poland needed help. However, it turned out that the hotel reception did not speak English.

- Then the operator heard Italian in the background. So the receiver was taken over by an operator who speaks Italian and that's how they reached an agreement with the reception about helping the Pole - said Król.

Before the local ambulance arrived at the hotel in Albania, the sick man's wife received instructions on what to do until the medics arrived.

- Thanks to the ladies being so helpful, this man is alive today and is in a hospital in southern Poland - said Król.

Anyone traveling abroad should equip themselves with the emergency numbers of Polish consular services and local emergency telephones. It is worth writing these numbers down on a piece of paper so that in the event of a phone failure, they can be used from other people's phones.

People who regularly take medications should take them with them.
