Nurses have spoken out about their elimination from emergency medical teams (EMT). They describe the case of an emergency nurse employed in the Emergency Medical Services of the District Hospital in Chrzanów as an example of disturbing practices.
The woman had been continuously and professionally performing her duties in the Emergency Medical Services for 18 years and, despite her many years of experience and exemplary opinion and readiness to continue working in emergency medical services, by decision of the Hospital management in May this year she was delegated to work in a hospital ward.
- The only justification for this decision are financial issues - a nurse, in accordance with the applicable regulation of the Minister of Health, receives the remuneration due to a nurse from the system with higher education - describes the case in an official letter to the Ministry of Health, the Presidium of the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives. - The management, which is simultaneously in a legal dispute with paramedics about equal pay treatment, decided to remove nurses from the Emergency Medical Services, which raises doubts of an ethical, legal and organizational nature - warn local government authorities.
Nurses continue to appeal for urgent intervention in this matter, as well as for taking a clear position on practices that limit their access to work in the Emergency Medical Services.
- Such actions violate the principles of equality and fairness in employment, undermine the stability of emergency medical teams and lead to a decrease in the quality of pre-hospital care - warns Mariola Łodzińska, president of the National Nurses and Nurses Association.
The Presidium of the National Nurses and Nurses Association fears that situations such as the one in Chrzanów will be repeated in other units across the country. - We appeal to the Ministry of Health not to remain passive in the face of signals about unequal treatment of nurses and nurses in the system - they point out.
They indicate in the letter that "it is necessary to: stop the process of eliminating nurses from the Emergency Medical Services, ensure that staffing decisions are not dictated solely by financial considerations, omitting quality and patient safety."
- The nurses' community in the system deserves respect, stability and equal treatment. We count on decisive actions that will restore trust in the system and secure key competences of the emergency medical services staff - we read in the position of nurses addressed to the Ministry of Health.
