The creators of "Stranger Things" are leaving Netflix. They received an offer they couldn't refuse.

The Duffer Brothers, who created one of the streaming platform's biggest hits for Netflix, are leaving the company and moving to Paramount. The studio offered Matt and Ross an offer they couldn't refuse. Starting in April 2026, they will develop film, television, and streaming projects for the studio for the next four years.
Under a four-year deal with Paramount , "Stranger Things" creators Matt and Ross Duffer will primarily pursue "ambitious" and "large-scale" film projects. The Duffers' current deal with Netflix expires in April of next year. After that, the Duffers' production company, Upside Down Pictures, will continue to produce for Paramount.
"We are thrilled to be joining the Paramount family. It's not only exciting, but a dream come true. It's an honor we can't ignore to work for a studio with such a storied Hollywood legacy. We're also thrilled to be working again with our friends Cindy Holland and Matt Thunell , who were among the first to believe in us when we presented them with the extraordinary script that became 'Stranger Things' in 2015. We can't wait to create new stories together," the Duffer brothers said, according to Variety.
As the Duffers recall, it was Holland who gave the green light to begin production on "Stranger Things" for Netflix, on which Thunell also worked. Holland and Thunell currently hold executive positions at Paramount.
For now, Matt and Ross will be wrapping up other projects they've started for Netflix, including "Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen" and "The Boroughs." They'll also be involved in developing new stories for the "Stranger Things" universe.
The fifth and final season of "Stranger Things" is divided into three parts. The first will debut on Netflix on November 27, the second on December 26, and the final episode will air on January 1, 2026.
