He lost a treasure worth 2.9 billion złoty in a landfill. Finally, a breakthrough awaits him

The story of James Howells, who mistakenly lost over £500 million, went viral at one point. Now we're going to learn a lot more about it.

Remember James Howells, who I wrote about earlier this year ? In short: the 39-year-old man has been trying for over a decade to recover a hard drive that is believed to be in a landfill in Newport , Wales .

Why is it so important? According to the man, there are £570 million worth of bitcoins inside, which is about 2.9 billion złoty.

The Supreme Court rejected James' bid for access to the landfill or compensation of £495 million, saying there was no rational basis for the claim and no realistic prospect of success at a full trial .

Interestingly, Howells also expressed interest in buying the landfill site after Newport City Council announced it planned to close it in the 2025/26 financial year. However, the city council said it would not be commenting further on the matter.

The story has not only interested media and internet users around the world, but also important people from the LEBUL studio, which, as reported by the BBC , has just obtained exclusive rights to develop and produce his story.

The Los Angeles- based company plans to create a documentary series , podcast , and short-form videos documenting the efforts to recover a bitcoin disk accidentally thrown away by Howells' partner.

The series, titled “The Buried Bitcoin: The Real-Life Treasure Hunt of James Howells,” will explore the origins of bitcoin, Howells’ part in the story, his legal battles, and his modern plan to dig up his lost treasure, all brought to life with elaborate computer graphics .
