According to new information regarding Cameron Crowe's long-planned Joni Mitchell biopic, Anya Taylor-Joy is set to play the famous singer. The "Queen's Gambit" star is currently in talks to star. In the film, which takes place across two timelines, Taylor-Joy will play the young Mitchell, while Meryl Streep will play the artist as a mature artist.

The InSneider website reported that Anya Taylor-Joy was in talks with producers of a film about Joni Mitchell . The popular actress would play the legendary singer and songwriter. Kristine Froseth, known from the series "Huntresses," was also reportedly considered. Although Froseth was expected to perform exceptionally well during the casting process, a much more recognizable name was chosen.

Filming for the Joni Mitchell project was supposed to begin in March of this year, in time for Meryl Streep's start on the sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada." However, director Cameron Crowe had to deal with personal matters – his home in Los Angeles was damaged by wildfires, and production had to be postponed.

It's unclear whether filming on the Joni Mitchell film will begin this fall. It's possible it will be postponed until early next year. This will be Crowe's first film in a decade, following the release of his poorly-reviewed romantic comedy "Welcome to Hawaii."

A former Rolling Stone journalist interviewed Mitchell for him in 1979, and they became friends ever since. They also collaborated on the script for the still-untitled film. It's rumored that it won't be a "traditional" biopic.

Joni Mitchell, now 82, is a folk music icon whose storied career has not limited her to this genre. Described as one of the greatest songwriters in music history, she has inspired generations of artists. She has won a total of ten Grammy Awards. Among other honors, she also received the Gershwin Award in 2023 for her contributions to popular music.
