Colombians are redefining the way they choose their accommodations in 2025. According to a Kayak analysis based on searches conducted between January and August of this year, preferences are polarizing between the search for budget-friendly options and interest in luxury accommodations . Searches for two-star accommodations registered an 8% increase compared to last year, while those for five-star accommodations grew by 5%.

On average, two-star accommodations reach a nightly rate of $149,604, while five-star accommodations reach $616,552. Intermediate categories show a slight decrease: three-star hotels fell 1% to an average cost of $308,184, and four-star hotels fell 3% to an average rate of $531,015. These results reflect that some travelers are looking to maximize their budgets, while others maintain their focus on more exclusive experiences.
The general trend shows a diversification in travelers' choices. While one segment is oriented toward value for money, another segment is increasingly interested in comfort and quality of service. According to KAYAK, search behavior suggests that accommodation continues to be a determining factor in the travel experience, both for comfort and convenience.
The rise of resorts and the added value of servicesIn terms of accommodation type, resorts are leading the growth, with a 43% increase in searches compared to 2024. With an average price of $1,139,216 per night, this format is consolidating as an alternative for those seeking comprehensive relaxation and entertainment experiences in one place. Hotels maintain their level of interest, with zero variation and an average rate of $340,220.
Aparthotels also recorded a 2% increase, reaching an average price of $293,063 per night. This type of accommodation combines the independence of an apartment with the services of a hotel . In contrast, hostels saw a 4% decrease in searches, with an average price of $142,663, and apartments saw the largest drop, falling 7% to $284,163.

KAYAK's analysis reveals that Colombian travelers are taking a more strategic approach to their accommodation search, prioritizing tangible benefits. The filter "breakfast included" tops the list, followed by "all-inclusive" and "free parking." These three criteria reflect the importance of savings and convenience as deciding factors in their choice.
Other filters such as "pool," "beachfront," and "free cancellation" are also among the most frequently used, although less frequently. The choice of these benefits shows that Colombians value services that facilitate travel logistics and reduce additional expenses.
Alejandro Lombana, KAYAK's Latin America sales director, stated that "Colombian travelers are becoming more strategic: they're looking for accommodations that offer real value. That's why at KAYAK, we offer a wide variety of filters to suit both budgets and preferences, such as breakfast included, all-inclusive, or free parking, allowing travelers to find options that best fit their travel style."
Search behavior confirms a growing interest in adding value to the hotel experience. The increase in searches for resorts and aparthotels, along with the use of cost-saving filters, demonstrates a dual trend between convenience and economic efficiency.
Valledupar and Rio de Janeiro, the fastest-growing destinationsNationally, Santa Marta, Cartagena, and Medellín top the list of most searched destinations for lodging in 2025. However, Valledupar stands out as the city with the greatest growth in searches, with a 50% increase compared to the previous year. Punta Cana ranks second with a 21% increase, consolidating its position as a Caribbean benchmark. Data indicates that Colombian travelers maintain a balance between beach and urban destinations, both within and outside the country. The combination of sun and culture continues to be a central factor in travel decisions. At the same time, the search for accommodations with included services suggests that tourists are looking for more comprehensive and less fragmented experiences.
The analysis also reflects a sustained preference for traditional destinations, although with notable growth in emerging cities and local tourism offerings. Valledupar's presence in the national top rankings represents a renewed interest in exploring new areas within the country.
General trends in accommodation searchesThe KAYAK study, based on millions of searches between January and August 2025, shows that choosing a place to stay is a key element in travel planning. The coexistence of interest in low-cost and luxury accommodations reflects a more segmented behavior. On the one hand, a growing trend is emerging among travelers who seek to control spending without sacrificing comfort; on the other, a segment that maintains its demand for high-end experiences.
