The German village that looks like something out of a fairy tale: crossed by a river and famous for its wines

Germany is one of the best destinations for a getaway this fall, although the vast majority of travelers who fly from Spain to Germany do so to one of its major cities, such as Munich, Berlin, or Stuttgart, or to natural enclaves like the Black Forest, leaving aside wonderful towns that are incredible rural tourism destinations; clear proof of this is the town of Cochem, which seems taken straight from a Brothers Grimm tale.
This absolutely fantastic villa is located on the banks of the Moselle River, in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and Less than two hours from the city of Frankfurt, and in addition to having a historic center that could easily be considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is one of the cradles of winemaking in Germany, making it an ideal place to escape from the routine for a few days before the winter season and low temperatures arrive.
Cochem, a fantasy village in western GermanyJust over 5,000 inhabitants live in this fantastic town in western Germany , whose origins date back at least to the 9th century. Nestled in the Moselle Valley, Cochem sits on a bend formed by a tributary of the Rhine, but its location isn't the only thing that makes this town special, as its architectural heritage is simply spectacular.
The village is crowned by an impressive late Gothic castle , built around the year 1000 and once an imperial residence, which was also conquered by Napoleon's troops. Its current appearance dates back to the 19th century, when a thorough restoration returned the fort to its former splendor. The interior is equally captivating. Perched more than 100 meters above the riverbed, the castle offers privileged views of Cochem's historic center.
In the town center, the best thing to do is stroll through its cobbled streets lined with typical half-timbered houses, where visitors will discover such extraordinary surprises as the Market Square, the wonderful St. Michael's Church , and the town hall, one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in the region.
Furthermore, during the fall and the weeks leading up to Christmas, Cochem becomes a dream getaway destination, as the surrounding forests and vineyards (its wine is famous throughout Europe) take on beautiful hues. The best way to explore this beautiful town is to fly to Frankfurt and from there drive the 150 kilometers that separate the two German cities.
