If you plan to drive a vehicle in Colombia, it's important to know that a driver's license is a document that allows you to travel on different roads. However, it's classified by categories depending on the vehicle you drive. What are they?

According to information provided by Motor through its website, there are currently three categories. One for motorcycles and three-wheeled vehicles; the second for private cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks; and the third for essential services and public transportation. It's important to know that these types of licenses have several subdivisions. Below, you'll find a description of each:

-A1 licenses : motorcycles up to 125cc are allowed to be driven.

-A2 Licenses : with this you can drive motorcycles of a displacement type, motorcycles over 125 cc.

-B1 Licenses : will allow you to drive campers, cars, minibuses, vans, motorcycles and ATVs.

-B3 licenses: the type of documentation required to drive private tractor-trailers and articulated vehicles.

-C2 licenses : intended for drivers of large vehicles such as public service buses and trucks.

-C3 License : This is the one that allows you to drive on the TransMilenio articulated buses.

How can you obtain a traffic license in Colombia?

The Ministry of Justice announced the procedure through its website. Applicants must be over 16 years of age and literate. Must be registered with the National Single Traffic Registry (RUNT). Must have no traffic violations.

- Take the physical and mental fitness test that certifies driving ability. This certification must be issued by a Driver Recognition Center authorized by the Ministry of Transportation. Additionally, applicants must pass the theoretical and practical exam or present a certificate from the place where they took the course.
