Tagle, the small town in Cantabria that shares its name with one of the cardinals who could be the next pope.

Following the death of Pope Francis , 133 cardinals will gather in conclave and vote for the Argentine's successor . Although we will have to wait for the white smoke to be revealed , some of them stand out as candidates with the best chance of becoming the new bishop of Rome, such as the Italian Matteo Maria Zuppi and the Guinean Robert Sarah.
Another cardinal who stands out for his chances of becoming pope is Luis Antonio Tagle . This 67-year-old Filipino was the Archbishop of Manila and currently holds the position of Pro-Prefect of the Section for First Evangelization and New Particular Churches of the Dicastery for Evangelization. Furthermore, the cardinal has a curious connection with Spain, as his surname corresponds to a small town on the Cantabrian coast . In fact, the cardinal has even visited the town with his family, whose paternal roots are said to be from the town.
Tagle, a peaceful setting on the Cantabrian coastLocated in the coastal municipality of Suances, at the foot of the Sierra del Huervo , the village of Tagle awaits us with its peaceful atmosphere. With just over 530 inhabitants, we'll find nothing but a collection of white houses with orange roofs that contrast with the surrounding green landscape.

Furthermore, as we stroll through its streets, we'll also come across some historic buildings, such as the Church of San Pedro , built in the 17th century. In addition to its bell tower, its wooden barrel vault and highly decorated silver chalice are noteworthy. Another notable feature is the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe , built in the first half of the 18th century. We'll also see the remains of the Torre de los Tagle, which suffered a fire in the 17th century and is now in ruins.
A beach between cliffsThe coastal landscapes surrounding Tagle give it a special charm. On the coast, we find one of the town's most attractive features: its beach, known as El Sable or Tagle Beach . It is a small cove just 200 meters long, nestled between steep cliffs. In addition to its wild appearance , it boasts fine sand, a small mineral spring, and a natural pool.

From here, we can walk to other points of interest. To the east, we find the medieval Tower of San Telmo and the Hermitage of Santa Justa , located on the seashore inside a cave. To the east lies Punta Ballota , a magical place that offers spectacular views of the Cantabrian Sea.
