The passport is the identification document for Colombians abroad, so every citizen traveling outside the country must have one. Thanks to the implementation of a new system with advanced technology, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs modernized the issuance process, reducing costs and time. However, what happens when there is an error in the information? What should be done?

In addition to being faster, simpler, and more secure, the passport application process can be completed free of charge and without intermediaries, using a new online appointment scheduling module. Although it is not common, errors in personal information may be detected upon receiving the passport, due to inadvertent errors during the capture process or when printing the information.

For this reason, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds citizens that, once they receive their passport, it is essential to carefully check that the information printed on the personal information sheet is correct.

If any errors or inconsistencies are identified, the holder has a maximum period of 30 calendar days from the date of delivery of the document to request its replacement at no additional cost. This procedure is subject to current regulations, which do not allow corrections or modifications to previously issued passports. If a correction is required after the deadline, the applicant must apply for a new passport and bear its cost.

The new passport model: simpler, more accessible

With the implementation of the new passport model, the application process is more streamlined, without the need for intermediaries, and completely free during the scheduling phase.

Appointments are scheduled exclusively through the official system, available 24/7 . To begin the process, the applicant's national identity card (CC) or the legal guardian's identification card (if the applicant is a minor) is required.

After entering the scheduling page, the system will ask for your authorization to process your personal data. Once you accept, it will display the available dates and times for scheduling the appointment. Before beginning the process, it is advisable to review the requirements, fees, and service locations on the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

This is how the document is delivered

• In Bogotá: the passport is delivered within 24 business hours after payment. • In the CADE network and provincial governments: 48 business hours. • Abroad, through consulates: approximately 8 business days, subject to logistical factors. Delivery is always made in person, and a valid ID must be presented. In the case of minors, the delivery will be made to the parent or legal representative who accompanied the procedure, duly identified.
