Discover Italy's southernmost island: a small paradise closer to Africa than to Europe

Located 205 km from Sicily and just 113 km from Tunisia , the Italian island of Lampedusa is the southernmost territory in the entire country. At just 20 km², this small landmass with an arid climate and wild nature is well worth a visit to enjoy its idyllic beaches , vibrant seabed, and peaceful atmosphere.

Lampedusa, along with the island of Linosa and the Lampione reef, form the Pelagia archipelago . To get there, you can take a flight from Palermo or Catania, in Sicily, or from Milan , Rome, or Naples on the Italian mainland. Alternatively, you can travel by sea on a ferry from the southern coast of Sicily.

White sand beaches and rich seabeds

Lampedusa's main attraction is its white-sand beaches and beautiful pebble coves . These include Pisana, Uccello, Spugna, Maluk, Greca, Galera, Mare Morto, Francese, Guitgia, Croce, Madonna, Porto N'Tone, and Pulcino. You'll find sandy beaches for all tastes , from easily accessible spots perfect for small children to hidden corners in coves.

If you want to continue enjoying the Mediterranean Sea, you can also dive into its rich seabed by snorkeling or scuba diving. Its abundant flora and fauna make for a truly magical experience, complemented by features such as the statue of the Madonna del Mare , at a depth of 14 meters. Other diving spots include Punta Parrino , with its fields of posidonia; Taccio Vecchio , where you can admire the underwater grotto of the same name; Punta Cappellone , teeming with tuna, amberjack, sea bream, dentex, and grouper; and the sandbanks of the eastern area, where, if you're lucky, you might see loggerhead turtles.

And for those who prefer to stay on land, there are excursions available, such as hiking trails that reach the summit of the island's three main peaks: Monte Rosso, Monte Nero, and Monte Vulcano.

From Isola dei Conigli to beach parties

On the southern coast of Lampedusa lies the tiny Isola dei Conigli (Rabbit Island), off what is arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire Mediterranean. Spiaggia dei Conigli will captivate you with its turquoise waters and white sand. It's also a protected area for the presence of loggerhead turtles that lay their eggs here. The small islet is easily accessible by swimming, as it's only 100 meters away, and less than a meter deep.

Finally, to fully immerse ourselves in Lampedusa's culture, there's nothing better than enjoying the numerous seaside festivals held on the beaches during the summer nights.
