10 walks on the Atlantic Coast: from Frondizi's house on Ostende beach to the legend of the meteorite in Miramar

While the main attraction of the coastal cities and towns of southern Buenos Aires are the beaches , which are especially enjoyable in summer, spring —already early on some days in the final stretch of winter—suggests other ways to relax and have fun in these destinations.
One of them is the low-intensity tours organized by municipalities or specialized guides , so that residents and tourists can discover places of interest that present both nature and milestones of local history .
Each of these outings takes about two hours , an estimated time that depends on the interest shown by visitors.
Here are a dozen suggestions to consider during this time of warmer days, along the more than 600-kilometer stretch of the Atlantic Coast beach resort corridor from San Clemente del Tuyú to Pehuén Co. This is just a small selection among many options, which multiply between December and March.

El Tío Estate offers guided day, night, and sunrise horseback rides lasting one and a half hours, taking you through the La Lucila del Mar forest and the pristine Aguas Verdes beach, two of the least-traveled areas in the Partido de la Costa region.
The horse and rider ride is at a walking pace throughout the tour, starting at 5600 Rioja Street, La Lucila del Mar, three blocks from the beach. Depending on the tour schedule, guide Heriberto treats guests to mate and fried cakes or a hamburger and soda. Horses can also be rented for half an hour or an hour.

Guide Vanesa Rinaldi leads a two-hour guided walk through the founding sector of Ostende , the oldest town in the Pinamar district, designed in 1913 in the European style by French architects.
One of the most interesting stops of the route is in front of the Old Hotel Ostende and the remains of the Rambla Sur, relics of the Belle Epoque that emerged from the wasteland of dunes and sea.
Another very well-preserved gem is the small house built on the beach that belonged to former president Arturo Frondizi .
The walk ends at the top of the dune ridge, which offers an unbeatable panoramic view of the sunset over the coast.

The life and work of Carlos Gesell is recounted by guide Cecilia Bosisio during a one-and-a-half-hour tour of the Pinar del Norte forest.
The route begins at the pioneer's first home, built in 1931 and converted into a museum. "The house with four doors," oriented toward each of the cardinal points, was the starting point for the growth of the town founded on December 14, 1931, and is therefore considered Villa Gesell's most valuable heritage asset.
While visitors receive detailed information about the history of the founder's family and their work establishing dunes in the midst of the desert of living dunes, the walk connects the Pioneers Museum, "Don Carlos's" second home—where he lived until his death in 1979—and the Museum and Historical Archive of the Malvinas War Veteran Livio Cossiani.
Other attractions include the refreshing forest environment, the diversity of birds, and the constant sound of their chirping.

The guided walk through the Mar de las Pampas forest, created by resident Mónica García in 2004, is now recreated as a walking tour that allows visitors to see single-family homes, a wild area, and another, more heavily-developed part of the Nature Reserve.
Along the way, the Casa de los Peones and the Water Tank , part of the founding buildings where the seedlings for the resort's forestation were created, are particularly striking for visitors.
The last section covers part of Juan Forn and Cruz del Sur streets and the "Esquina de los aromos" or "De los amantes" (Lovers' Corner) , before reaching the end point in the town's commercial center.
At four stops, totem pole signage expands information about the area through QR codes. For example, it covers the history of dune restoration and forestation since 1957, the completion of the first two lots in the then-desolate area, and the flourishing of more than 30 forest species, including pampas grass, acacia trinervis, Bohemian olive, maritime pine, and stone pine.

Guide José Luis Freire suggests a walk "full of enigmas" through the Energy Forest of the Florentino Ameghino Dune Nursery in Miramar.
The tour begins at La Cúpula, considered the area with the highest energy intensity in the nature reserve. The site's most striking feature is due to the fall of a meteorite 3.5 million years ago, a phenomenon that radiated a significant amount of magnetism.
Among other recreational games, visitors are encouraged to place two branches on the ground in a "T" shape to discover their effect and to hug a tree to "release the negative energy contained in the body." The tour and activities take about an hour and a half to complete.

While leading the organization of the next edition of Claromecó Fungi - the edible mushroom festival of this resort in the Tres Arroyos district, announced for May 1, 2026 -, guide Emilia García Ventureyra leads three-hour environmental interpretation walks throughout the year .
One of these excursions takes in the Dunamar maritime forest , populated by pine, acacia, and eucalyptus trees introduced 80 years ago. The Vivero circuit also features abundant pines and cypresses.
The third option - along the trail of the old Bellocq ranch , 7 kilometers from Claromecó - presents a much denser green landscape of established and native species, such as tala, molle, aguaribay, carqueja and flor del talar.
In this case, visitors are led to the 25-hectare field of a historic agricultural school , which is now home to an environmental NGO.
Among the wide diversity of coastal and inland birds, flocks of thrushes, swallows, rufous-breasted swallows, and silverbills frequently appear. In the fall, García Ventureyra and other local guides lead a tour of the first Mycotourism Route created in the province of Buenos Aires, conceived as an educational activity for searching for and identifying edible mushrooms.

One of the best places to experience Monte Hermoso's natural surroundings beyond the beach and ocean through hiking, running, or biking is the Camino Sinuoso, a self-guided tour accessible via Dufaur Street or Route 78 off Route 3.
This 7-kilometer trail was the main access route to the resort until 1982. The eastern branch unites history, nature, art, and rest areas among eucalyptus, pine, and poplar trees. Recently, the Sculpture Walk was added, featuring four bas-relief works over one and a half meters tall, carved from tree trunks.
In turn, the western section of the Winding Road is even more relaxing and combines areas of native vegetation with panoramic views of the coastal landscape .
Among the main walks in the area, the attractions of areas I, II, and III of the Coastal Archaeological Nature Reserve stand out, but guided tours are offered during the summer season, both from the Vicente Di Martino Municipal Museum of Natural Sciences in Monte Hermoso and from Pehuén Co.
