These are the six apps you should uninstall immediately if you want to protect your bank account.

Our mobile phones have become the main target of cyberattacks because they are where we store the largest amount of personal and banking information, which in this day and age are key to any scam, deception, or theft.

For this reason, attackers have many ways to try to obtain this information, and one of the most dangerous for users is to stealthily infiltrate our devices so that, without our knowledge, they can extract the data they are seeking.

They can do this through messages containing fraudulent links, files that contain malicious malware when downloaded, or by directly impersonating apps that appear legitimate but are not.

This time, Kaspersky researchers are sending an urgent alert to hundreds of users after discovering several VPN apps that are actually hiding a virus that can steal your banking information and drain your account. Paradoxically, virtual private networks (VPNs) are security apps, as they allow you to create a private network connection between devices over the internet .

Kaspersky has identified six VPN apps that are actually malicious and that you should immediately remove from your smartphone:

  1. MaskVPN
  2. DewVPN
  3. PaladinVPN
  4. ProxyGate
  5. ShieldVPN
  6. ShineVPN

Experts point out that it's very important to remove these apps as soon as possible because they put all the sensitive data stored on your device at risk, such as passwords, banking history, and other personal details .

Experts note that the number of people affected by these fraudulent apps increased by 89% during the third quarter of 2024. To avoid these malicious apps, remember to always download from reliable, official sources and avoid those that promise free services without offering any guarantees of protection.
