MEXICO CITY (apro) - Starting May 31, 2025, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico implemented an adjustment to the nonimmigrant visa application process, affecting all individuals who are in the middle of the process or about to begin it. The change means that it will no longer be possible to attend both the Visa Applicant Service Center (CAS) and the interview at the embassy or consulate on the same day.

According to the notice issued by the Embassy through its official channels, applicants must appear at the CAS at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled date of their consular interview. This measure will apply across the board to all nonimmigrant visa applications.

The modification aims to optimize the flow of care and reduce the concentration of people in processing centers. It also falls within the safety measures established by the administration of former President Donald Trump.

What to do if you already had two appointments on the same day

The Embassy reported that applicants who scheduled their CAS appointment and consular interview for the same day should have received an email notification with a new CAS date. If you have not received this notification, you are advised to contact the corresponding contact center directly for guidance.

Recommendations for applicants

The consular authorities recommended taking the following into account:

  • Check the dates of your scheduled appointments in advance using the official system.
  • Check your email frequently, including your spam or junk mail folder.
  • If a reprogramming has not been received, contact the service center as soon as possible.
  • Plan your visit to the CAS at least two days before your interview at the embassy or consulate.
Context of change

The adjustment to the appointment schedule is part of a series of measures adopted to improve the efficiency of the visa application process. It also responds to security measures implemented in recent years, the purpose of which is to facilitate document review and avoid overcrowding at consular centers.
