Dominican Republic holds the record for the world's largest mofongo

The Dominican Republic achieved a new world title this Saturday by obtaining the Guinness Record for the largest green plantain ball in the world, a gastronomic feat that took shape with a gigantic 560-kilogram mofongo , prepared in the central park of Santiago de los Caballeros,
The feat was achieved under the watchful eye of hundreds of people and the official evaluation of Susana Reyes, international adjudicator of Guinness World Records.
"I can confirm that this is the mofongo dish with the largest plantain ball in the world," Reyes declared after announcing the official weigh-in, which yielded 560 kilos, equivalent to 1,234 pounds, far exceeding the Guinness minimum of 200 kilograms required for this category.
The Guinness representative from Mexico explained that the title awarded is generally called "The World's Largest Green Plantain Ball ," to allow other countries to compete on equal terms, regardless of the dish's local name.
"I know this recipe is for mofongo ; however, our mission at Guinness is to inspire people everywhere to reach their full potential," Reyes said during the event.

He added that key aspects were carefully checked, such as the dish's round and compact shape, which had to remain in one piece without falling apart, and compliance with strict safety and hygiene standards to ensure the food was safe for public consumption.
The process included collaboration with local organizers , chefs , health authorities , and accredited witnesses, in addition to a prior review of the technical documentation and supplies used.
Reyes emphasized that this new world title joins other Dominican records already held, such as the world 's largest merengue and bachata records.
"This entire team put in a tremendous amount of work: the chefs , the players , and everyone involved. Many thanks also to you, the audience, for your patience," the judge said at the beginning of her remarks.
Five hours of workThe preparation of the mofongo ball began at 3:00 p.m. and concluded at almost 8:00 p.m., after more than five hours of hard work and constant vigilance, amid great anticipation.
This is the first officially recognized world record for "a ball of green plantain ( mofongo )," making the iconic Creole dish of mashed green plantain, pork rinds, and garlic a new badge of pride for Dominican gastronomy .
It is worth noting that the country was also awarded another Guinness World Record for the world's largest majarete , thus consolidating its culinary creativity and organizational capacity.
As part of the closing ceremony, organizers announced that the next big challenge will be to break the record for the world's largest sancocho , in a new event that promises to unite flavor, identity, and teamwork .
