Residents of Las Heras halt asphalt work due to lack of sewage systems.

They live between Doctor Moreno and Avellaneda streets and have organized to demand that the sewers be fixed before paving.
A group of residents living between Doctor Moreno and Avellaneda streets in Las Heras are reporting the collapse of the sewage system and are asking for priority to be given to this project over others, such as paving streets.
They claim that the main sewer, installed in the 1970s, was never replaced or maintained and is now practically nonexistent due to the deterioration of the material. They asserted that the lack of work is causing subsidence, leaks, and cracks in the homes. Faced with this situation, the residents decided to halt the paving work the municipality was carrying out in the area until a comprehensive repair of the sewer system is completed.

According to residents, the problem has gone unsolved for years. The main sewer system that runs along Doctor Moreno Street, one of the oldest arteries in the department, has deteriorated sections and areas where there are no pipes at all . Household connections cannot drain into the street, so liquids seep underground. "When the Sanitation trucks unclog the drains, they take out dirt, not water," said Bibiana Bautista (51), a resident of the neighborhood. The collapsed system affects both homes and public streets. The passage of buses or heavy vehicles generates strong vibrations in the ground, which can be felt in the cracks in the homes.

The neighbor reported that the Doctor Moreno main pipeline was never maintained and that only a partial repair was made on Uruguay Street, located a few meters away. However, she stated, the work was limited to one block and did not solve the problem. "They repair one section and transfer the pressure to the next. The neighbors say they make a new pipeline, but they connect it to nowhere," Bautista confirmed. The residents drafted a formal note addressed to the Sanitary Works Department and also filed personal complaints . According to them, some neighbors detected holes under the floors of their houses and leaks, demonstrating the loss of soil.
All the anger that the area's residents had been building up came to a head in recent days. When the asphalt trucks arrived, they decided to block their progress: they parked vehicles on the street and didn't allow machinery to enter until a comprehensive repair of the sewer system begins. They say that if the asphalt is laid now, future work will be unfeasible. "We want them to replace the main sewer before paving," says Bibiana.

The resident also stated that during a recent political tour, residents were able to speak with Public Works personnel. At that time, officials acknowledged that there was a dispute between the municipality and Aysam, but without any concrete commitments. “They told us they're in court, but that doesn't solve anything for us. We're still dealing with the problem ,” she said.
For now, residents continue to document the state of the streets, manholes, and cracks in their homes with photos and videos, awaiting a technical response. For residents, the complaint is not limited to one or two blocks. They claim that the entire sewage system in the area is compromised and that the main sewer, installed more than half a century ago, requires complete renovation.
