Pinta BAphoto 2025: Latin America's most important photography fair arrives in La Rural.

The 2025 edition of the Pinta BAphoto fair was presented yesterday at the Confitería Las Violetas located at Medrano and Avenida Rivadavia, choosing another notable bar in the city of Buenos Aires with the entire staff led by Diego Costa Peuser. From October 16 to 19 in Pavilion 8 of La Rural , the most important art fair specializing in photography in Latin America once again provides a meeting place for artists, curators, specialized critics, collectors, and an ever-growing public.

The group develops Pinta Miami, Pinta BAphoto, and Pinta Lima , in addition to the Pinta Art Weeks in Panama and Asunción; and the Gallery program , which is based on a series of circuits promoted by Arte al Día with tours and activations in galleries and art spaces. Thirty-six galleries are confirmed for the 21st edition in the Main section, with more than 500 works by 113 artists , a new record for the fair. All the material can be explored on the official website https://baphoto.pinta.art
The edition has several strengths, such as the partnership with Banco Hipotecario , which grants a prize that seeks to support two galleries in their international projection, along with the active participation of two partner foundations, the Lariviére Foundation and the Proa Foundation.
Both will allow the use of the same BAphoto ticket to visit their spaces , in the case of the Lariviére publishing house and exhibition halls fully associated with Latin American photography and in Proa, which currently has the Pictet Human Prize exhibition on the second floor, a system that has been operating since 2008, in which the Swiss bank allocates a very significant sum to the selection of a group of artists who work on the theme specially designated each year by a jury that debates the important themes and that will have a special presentation at the Forum on Friday, October 17.
In the same vein, EFG Bank, together with the leading Colombian magazine in Latin America, ArtNexus and Liaisons, are organizing for the fifteenth consecutive year the EFG Latin America Art Prize , a prize for the acquisition of the work of a contemporary Latin American artist, which is awarded through a pre-selection process at five Latin American art fairs: SP Arte (Brazil), Pinta BA Photo (Argentina), ARTBO (Colombia), Pinta PArC (Peru) and ChACO (Chile).

The agenda includes a series of meetings, talks, and highly attractive promotions , along with guided tours that create interesting itineraries for those unfamiliar with some of the artists.
The Next section once again presents Out of Focus: Here, Always and Never , co-curated by Joaquín Rodríguez and Carlos Gutiérrez. This space maps projects with an interest in photography within the country, while also representing artists whose photography practices involve ways in which the image functions as a branch of a broader process that brings together technique, narrative, and material experimentation.
The artist honored this time is Anatole Saderman , curated by Francisco Medail. A native of Russia, he arrived in the country in 1926 at just 22 years old, with very little luggage, including a camera he didn't fully know how to use. He never imagined that his name would become associated in local art history as a reference for photographic portraiture, developing a style with its own grammar. On Saturday, October 18, a discussion will be held with the participation of the curator, Anatole's son Alejandro Saderman, Anatole's nephew Pedro Aparicio, and archivist Martina López.
On the topic of the complexity of archives, artist Vivian Galban and art historian and collection manager Cintia Mezza will reflect on the role of artists as custodians of personal, family, or legacy archives , and documentation as part of artistic practice.
The Street Project, which offers people in vulnerable situations the opportunity to show their reality through images taken with mobile devices, is once again occupying a place in the Forum. Oscar Bagnoud and Guillermo Kirsch, the coordinator of the photography workshop, are moderated by Jorge Mazzinghi, the creator of the project, along with Marina Pellegrini from the Vasari Gallery.

Another interesting debate, "Encounters and Detours: The Present of Self-Management," provides an interesting overview of the national scene with Gustavo Nieto (Director of Russia, Tucumán), Beatriz Yunes (Director of Yu&Va, Santiago del Estero), Ismael Abrahan (Director of Almacén de Arte, San Nicolás de los Arroyos) and Hans Petersen (Director of Department 112, Martínez, Buenos Aires), moderated by Joaquín Rodríguez and Carlos Gutiérrez.
On Sunday, October 19, the film "Sara Facio: Precursora Intires" (Sara Facio: Precursora Intires) directed by Cinthia Rajschmir presents a widely acclaimed career since the mid-1950s . The San Martín Photo Gallery, which this year honored her by naming the exhibition hall after her, will be another great opportunity to enjoy a series of works that have been shown there this year.
The Radar section, curated by Guad Creche, features galleries from Buenos Aires City such as Ungallery, Mite, URRA HIPHiP, Del Infinito, The White Lodge, El Espejo, and Casa Proyecto, along with two galleries from Salta: Ronda and Rayuela. Artists such as Marcela Sinclair, Marina Alessio, Mauro Guzmán, Matilde Marín, Mónica Villa, Nicola Costantino, and Nicolás Trombetta, among others, will be exhibited in each gallery.
The Video Project section, curated by Irene Gelfman, features American artist Donna Conlon , who currently resides in Panama and maintains a strong connection to the region. Exploring the relationship between humans and the natural world, Donna presents Fragile Shelters , a selection of six video pieces.

While this year's Special Project will be dedicated to the artist Marina de Caro and her series Binarios: idioma secreto (Binaries: Secret Language ), which began in the 1990s as part of a parade-performance held at the Banco Patricios Foundation during the 20th Century Argentine Art Conference organized by Jorge López Anaya.
As usual, there will be a book section and activities developed by artists around the books, several prizes awarded to the best stand, and an interesting anchor, highlighted in the presentation, which involves presenting the panorama of modern photography alongside contemporary photography in a fruitful exchange.
