Liniers: "Divinsky was a comet that left a trail of books that taught us to read and think."

"For me, Daniel is the Argentine Editor. With a capital ". The cartoonist, illustrator, painter, and editor Ricardo Liniers Siri , author of Macanudo , among other works, said goodbye to Daniel Divinsky , who passed away early this morning after nearly six decades of memorable work in the Argentine cultural scene.
Dear Daniel. Thank you. From the first Macanudo book, you were my beacon of light. Thank you for what I learned as an author. You're the reason I'm an editor. Publishing with you at Ediciones de la Flor was the greatest honor of my life as a cartoonist. #DanielDivinsky 1942-2025 pic.twitter.com/QNgydZ1hGB

Siri is better known as Liniers, which is not a surname but his middle name, which pays homage to a grandfather, a relative of Santiago de Liniers, who was viceroy of the Río de la Plata between 1807 and 1809.
He began making fanzines, published the comic strip "Bonjour" in the newspaper Página/12, and since 2002 has published "Macanudo" daily in the newspaper La Nación and weekly in the Spanish newspaper El País. In September 2018, "Macanudo" began publishing in US newspapers through King Features Syndicate .
He has published more than 30 books , many of which are published in Spain, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Germany, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile, South Korea, and China. In Argentina, his editor was Divinsky.
"He was a comet that passed through our country and left a trail of books that taught us to read and think ," he recalled to Clarín . "He was also a wonderful friend."

Like many readers (and writers and editors), the first image that comes to mind for Liniers is the Book Fair : "My first memories of him are at the Book Fair, sitting at the table next to Quino, Caloi, Fontanarrosa. An event that I haven't missed since the 80s onwards."
Liniers's career connects with other art forms , including music. He designed the cover art for albums by Kevin Johansen, Andrés Calamaro, Marcelo Ezquiaga, Cheba Massolo, Lisandro Aristimuño, and Kanaku y el Tigre. His work as an illustrator and cartoonist ranges from movie posters and wine labels to covers for the prestigious magazine The New Yorker .
"All the drawings I had were on the bookshelf in my house in one place. And that one, sitting at the top, was the one in charge ," he added.

Liniers is also an editor. In 2011, he and his wife, Angie, founded Editorial Común, dedicated to publishing graphic novels by various national and international writers and artists. "Daniel is the reason I started a publishing house," he told Clarín.
And he concluded: "What a good life to live, and what you leave behind as proof of your time in this place are all those books. I was lucky enough to have known him for many years , and now I'll be lucky enough to miss him."
