How is a book made?: Ferial, a fair to discover all the steps of publishing production
At that very moment when a reader picks up a book from the new releases table and decides they'll read it, at that very instant, dozens of steps, which transformed an idea in an author's mind into that glossy volume, take on meaning. Ferial is dedicated to this long process, which demands years, money, knowledge of different disciplines , and no small amount of audacity. It is "the only fair that involves all the trades involved in the production of a printed book ," as its organizers present it. It will take place this Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th from 2 to 8 pm with free admission at the headquarters of the National University of the Arts at Bartolomé Mitre 1869.
The fair is one of the cultural projects selected by the Orillas Nuevas ~ Nouveaux Rivages program , a plan to support, finance and internationalize the cultural and creative industries in Argentina, organized by the French Institute of Argentina , with the support of the Williams Foundation and the Medifé Foundation.
"This second edition will feature more than 180 exhibitors from different book-related trades , a live artisanal printing press , activities , talks, and many other offerings. A true celebration of books and publishing as an artistic field," Orillas Nuevas ~ Nouveaux Rivages invites.

Participating in the Ferial will be independent and artisanal publishers, bookstores, graphic artists , and businesses dedicated to bookbinding , calligraphy , illustration , graphic design , photography , writing , paper , printing , and related tools.
"The main objective is to promote the sale and dissemination of creations related to the Book Arts, to promote aspects of publishing as an artistic and professional endeavor , and to enhance contact with the trades involved in producing a book in paperback format, deepening the aesthetic sense and enjoyment," the organizers suggest.
Among the activities, there will be the presentation of the Award for the 25 best Latin American books , a meeting between word and sound entitled Sonoros Verses with the participation of the Celia Torra Women's Orchestra made up of more than thirty performers, a narration with kamishibai for children about Little Red Riding Hood by Pachamamita Libros, an activity entitled " Comics and revolution: narrating politics from fiction", the live installation of artisanal printing presses , handmade paper workshops and others on risography.

"As an inclusive, open, and federal cultural project, Ferial brings together artists, entrepreneurs, and professionals from all walks of life in the production and distribution chain of printed books. Its main objective is to highlight, promote, and connect the arts and crafts involved in the creation, materialization, and circulation of books as physical and aesthetic objects, fostering the exchange of knowledge and developing an aesthetic sense and enjoyment ," the organizers explain.
The exhibition will be spread over more than 1,000 square meters and will feature more than 180 exhibitors from both the metropolitan area and more than 10 provinces , who will organize 17 activities . The first edition of the fair attracted 5,000 visitors, although they expect this second edition to attract even more visitors.
