The Herds, in Venice the work of art becomes itinerant

It will stop in Venice on June 17th, starting from the Teatro Piccolo Arsenale to reach the gates of the Architecture Biennale "The Herds", a preview of the Wayne McGregor Dance Biennial. Spectacular travelling public artwork, The Herds uses life-size animal puppets to tell the story global climate crisis. Created by director Amir Nizar Zuabi, it is a large-scale action that crosses African cities and European, from the Congo Basin to the Arctic Circle, in a symbolic migration that grows stage by stage. Elephants, giraffes, antelopes and lions, gorillas, kudus and zebras at life-size animate urban performances to shake up the consciences and promote collective participatory action. From April to August, herds of animals built with cardboard recovery and a mobile wooden structure, the work of a team of 35 people including designers, technicians and trainers including Ukwanda Puppetry and Designs Art Collective of South Africa, invade the urban centers along a 20,000 kilometer route, symbolize their escape from the climate disaster that has destroyed their habitat. Biennale College Danza, with its 16 dancers and two selected choreographers, will meet The Herds at the Arsenale in Venice, and, with them, hip-hop star Anthony Matsena will create an unprecedented choreographic intervention. After Venice The Herds will stop in Paris, London, Manchester, Aarhus, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Trondheim, for close to the Arctic Circle.
