Netflix Announces Madonna Biopic

A never-before-seen portrait of the global pop icon takes shape in a limited series produced by Netflix, which will retrace the fundamental stages of her artistic career, her personal evolution and the profound cultural impact she has had through music, dance, activism and expressive audacity.
Netflix has begun development on a limited series centered on the life and career of pop music icon Madonna. The project will feature Madonna as an executive producer, along with veteran producer Shawn Levy, whose studio, 21 Laps, has an exclusive deal with the streaming service. The project represents a new direction from a previous attempt at a Madonna biopic, which was previously in development at Universal Pictures. That film would have starred actress Julia Garner in the title role. While she is not currently tied to a deal for the new series, Garner has remained in touch with the project and may be considered again to play the singer, given her scheduling.
As it is still in the early stages of development, it has not been defined which period of the artist's long and varied career will be the focus of the narrative. It also remains uncertain whether Madonna will directly participate in writing the screenplay, although the artist co-wrote the screenplay for the previously announced film. The agreement with Netflix and with a successful producer like Levy, known for series such as Stranger Things, The Perfect Couple and All the Light We Cannot See, represents a significant step towards the realization of a project long desired by Madonna herself. In previous statements, the artist had expressed her desire to tell her life journey through art, music and dance, emphasizing the complexity and strength of her human and artistic journey.
