Apple: an all-glass iPhone in 2027

Apple is preparing to revolutionize the design of its flagship device with an all-glass, curved model with no visual interruptions on the screen, scheduled for 2027 on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the product that changed the world of technology forever

Apple is gearing up for a major wave of launches in 2027, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, analyst Mark Gurman wrote in his weekly Power On newsletter for Bloomberg. The planned launches include a radically redesigned iPhone model that will feature a mostly glass body and a curved design with no visible breaks in the display. The concept of a “curved, almost all-glass iPhone” harks back to previous Apple patents, including one from 2019 that describes a device that is entirely encased in glass, with a continuous surface that wraps around the phone in a closed loop. While no technical details were provided, the design is believed to be a significant evolution from current models like the iPhone 15 Pro, which already feature a combination of glass and titanium.

2027 is shaping up to be a turning point for other parts of the Apple ecosystem as well. In addition to the iPhone, Gurman reiterates the company’s intention to launch the first foldable smartphone model, along with a pair of smart glasses, partly equipped with augmented reality features, intended to compete with devices such as the Meta Ray-Ban. These are joined by new versions of AirPods and Apple Watch equipped with integrated cameras. Among the most ambitious innovations, a table-top home robot is also mentioned, designed to act as an intelligent assistant with its own “personality”. This device is part of Apple’s vision of more natural and empathetic human-machine interaction, and could draw inspiration from previously leaked internal prototypes, such as the robotic lamp developed in research laboratories.

Finally, another milestone expected for 2027 concerns the introduction of a completely revamped Siri assistant, based on large language models (LLM). Apple, according to industry sources, is designing new chips for server-side AI processing, developed by the Israeli team also responsible for the Apple Silicon chips that allowed the abandonment of Intel architectures on Macs starting in 2020. All of these initiatives confirm Apple's intention to redefine the user experience on multiple fronts, focusing on profound technological innovations and increasingly advanced integration between hardware and artificial intelligence.
