Two events at the Ephebe Theatre: "Amphitryon" and "Aristophanes' Knights"
A week of two extraordinary events for the Classical and Mythological Theater Festival. On Thursday, July 31st, at 9:00 PM, the Teatro dell'Efebo will perform "Amphitryon," one of Plautus's most famous comedies, of great historical and linguistic value. Directed and starring Emilio Solfrizzi, one of Italy's most popular and esteemed actors, Solfrizzi has successfully integrated Plautus's original text with modern references. Solfrizzi's cast also includes Giancarlo Ratti, Ivano Falco, Viviana Altieri, Cristiano Dessì, Beatrice Coppolino, and Rosario Coppolino, with sets by Fabiana Di Marco and costumes by Alessandra Benaduce.
On Saturday, August 2nd, again at 9:00 PM, it will be the turn of "The Knights," Aristophanes's scathing comedy, adapted and directed by Cinzia Maccagnano, who was already highly acclaimed last year at the Teatro dell'Efebo in Sophoclean tragedies "Antigone" and "Seven Against Thebes." This play remains highly relevant even 2,500 years later, highlighting the power of propaganda and demagoguery in the constant deception of the people.
The cast includes Cinzia Maccagnano, Luna Marongiu, Raffaele Gangale, Cristina Putignano, Marta Cirello, Andrea Maiorca, and Maria Chiara Pellitteri, on stage alongside Luna Marongiu's masks and puppets. Original music by Lucrezio De Seta, costumes by Monica Mancini, and sets by Linda Passi, achieve the challenging but successful task of providing a mercilessly lucid portrait of contemporary society. Tickets can be purchased directly at www.giardinoefebo.it or at the Box Office on Via Imera, tel. 20500.
