Three griffon vultures released at the Cornino Reserve

In Forgaria nel Friuli, the Cornino Lake Nature Reserve hosted the "Live and Free to Fly" event, which saw the release of three griffon vultures, joined by many other birds of prey rescued and cared for by the Campoformido Recovery Center. Yesterday's event drew a large crowd, demonstrating the great interest in the Griffon Vulture Project.
Among the griffon vultures reintroduced into the wild was a 30-year-old specimen, born in Spain in 1995 and then arrived in Friuli in 1997. An adult specimen of unknown origins and a juvenile ringed in 2020 in Israel were released with him.
During the day, data on the species' birth rate was also presented. Despite a reduction in births last year, due to food supply difficulties following the pork ban, the number of fledged griffon vultures has risen to 40 in 2025. The bureaucratic and health challenges associated with the change in diet have been overcome, and the refreshment point is now regularly stocked, thanks in part to the contribution of the Regional Forestry Corps.
The day also provided an opportunity to reflect on the daily commitment of the Pavees Cooperative staff and to emphasize the importance of international networking. The mayors of Forgaria and Trasaghis and the representative of the Friulian Hill Community were present at the event.
