Roberta Torre is the new Artistic Director of the Pirandello Theatre
Agrigento – Director and author Roberta Torre has been appointed Artistic Director of the Pirandello Theatre in Agrigento. The proposal, put forward by General Director Salvo Prestia , was approved by the Foundation's Board of Directors , composed of Gaetano Airò, Giulio Cinque, Andrea Cirino, and Giuseppe Miccichè , and chaired by Alessandro Patti .
This appointment marks a significant turning point for the historic Agrigento theater. Torre, one of the most original and visionary voices on the Italian artistic scene, will bring his poetics, a blend of languages , visual storytelling , experimentation , and cultural roots . The new direction will focus on new dramaturgies , intersections between theater, film, music, and the visual arts , and the multimedia rediscovery of Pirandello's work , reaching out to cultural peripheries and marginalized voices .

Roberta Torre, born in Milan but Sicilian by adoption, has a career studded with prestigious awards: David di Donatello, Nastro d'Argento, and Lion of the Future at the Venice Film Festival. Her dazzling debut with Tano da morire (1997), a musical filmed on the streets of Palermo, marked a new way of narrating the South and the Mafia, through irony and poetry.
Among her films: Sud Side Stori (2000), Angela (2002), Mare nero (2006), Riccardo va all'inferno (2017), Le favolose (2022), Mi fanno male i capelli (2023). Her works have been screened at the most important international festivals, from Cannes to Sundance , from Locarno to Rome . Also the author of short films and innovative theatrical pieces, Torre was the first woman to direct a show at the Greek Theatre of Syracuse with Gli Uccelli (2012).
A teacher in Italy and abroad, he has always built his works starting from the territory and the genius loci , and Agrigento — now the Italian Capital of Culture 2025 — will be his new creative stage.
The new 2025-2026 theater season will be presented on August 12th at 11:00 a.m. at the Teatro Pirandello. This eagerly anticipated event promises a cultural turning point for the city and its audiences.
