Riccione Summer Jazz shines. From Patagarri to Fresu and Sosa.

A standing ovation and a sold-out performance for world-renowned jazz legend Billy Cobham, who opened Riccione Summer Jazz last night at the Palazzo del Turismo in Piazzale Ceccarini, organized by the Gaspare Tirincanti association. Tonight, at 9:30 pm, the festival continues with the beloved young band I Patagarri, known for their blended swing style. On stage are Francesco Parazzoli (trumpet and vocals), Jacopo Protti and Daniele Corradi (guitars), Giovanni Monaco (clarinet and saxophone), and Arturo Monico (trombone and percussion). "For the occasion, we'll perform a repertoire that includes our own songs," Monaco previews, "all the songs from the recently released album L'ultima ruota del carro, starting with "Sogni," "Diavolo," and "Il pollo," which we're most fond of, then songs written years ago and a few covers. Fun, danceable tunes, plus a few pieces that will make you think a little. It's our first time performing in public in Riccione, and we're curious to see the audience's reaction." "We've participated in very few jazz festivals," they continue, "which are interesting because they showcase so many musicians; they're full of talent, and you'll be amazed when you hear them. And we're students of jazz, so playing at these events and engaging with artists with decades of experience is always an honor. We play a hybrid, closer to singer-songwriters, but with influences from swing, jazz, and Balkan music."
Engaged in a 45-date tour from Sicily to Trento, Patagarri will soon be offering new experiences. "We're writing new songs, and after the tour we'll be recording more in preparation for a new album. We're living a dream; we feel privileged and lucky."
Riccione Summer Jazz continues tomorrow with the Myo Orchestra featuring Nico Gori & Stefano Bedetti, followed by the Francesca Tandoi Trio on the 29th, Paolo Fresu & Omar Sosa on the 30th, and Andrea Mingardi in dialogue with Andrea Roncato on the 31st. In August, Michel Godard with Tino Tracanna and Francesco D'Auria (on the 1st) and the Hermon Mehari Quintet (on the 2nd). On the 3rd, Cesare Picco will perform at 5:45 a.m. at Spiaggia del Sole, and the Stefano Di Battista Quartet will perform at 9:30 p.m. in Piazzale Ceccarini.
