Philippone Collection, Mayor Miccichè: "The works haven't disappeared; they will soon be visible again."
AGRIGENTO – After the controversy and unfounded rumors surrounding the alleged disappearance of the Philippone collection, Mayor Francesco Miccichè is taking action to clarify the situation. The 22 works by the master Giovanni Philippone , housed for years at the former College of the Filippini Fathers, have not been lost : they will soon be accessible to the public again in a new exhibition space.
"The collection," explains the mayor, "was originally housed on the third floor of the College, which subsequently underwent major renovations. Since last June, those very spaces have been home to " Metaphorà ," Agrigento's new multimedia museum."
During the interventions, the works—including Philippone's canvases—were adequately conserved to ensure their integrity and protection. "No dispersion, no neglect," Miccichè reiterates. "On the contrary, we have already initiated discussions with Stella Filippone , the artist's daughter, to whom I have given every reassurance. The works are catalogued, preserved , and will soon find a new, suitable location so they can once again be enjoyed by citizens and visitors."
The mayor's intervention aims to definitively put an end to any controversy and restore to the Agrigento community the certainty that the city's artistic heritage is being carefully protected.
