Festival: A new format for 'Umbria Green' is born, featuring ten leading Italian writers.

Ten great Italian women writers take center stage in Umbria: "The Shape of Water," the new format of the Umbria Green Festival , is born. From August 30th to September 8th, between Colfiorito, Annifo, and Bevagna, "The Shape of Water," the new cultural format of the Umbria Green Festival, will take place: a series of literary encounters focusing on female thought, the region, and the future. The protagonists are ten of the most important contemporary Italian women writers: Viola Ardone, Antonella Lattanzi, Donatella Di Pietrantonio, Romana Petri, Giulia Blasi, Giulia Siviero, Silvia Bre, Vanessa Roghi, Paola Caridi, and Lucia Tancredi. The project is curated by Loredana Lipperini, journalist, writer, and historical voice of Italian culture: "It's an experiment in exploring how women writers see and narrate the world," explains Lipperini. "A journey that intertwines writing, critical thinking, and landscape, where woods and water become part of the story."
'The Shape of Water' is not just a literary festival, but a cultural and political event, combining literature, civic engagement, and the promotion of inland areas . The meetings will be held in symbolic and evocative locations, such as Colfiorito Park, the Basilica of Plestia, the Library of Annifo, and the Teatro Torti in Bevagna. "We want to give voice to writers capable of opening new perspectives on crucial issues, creating spaces for listening and discussion in places where nature, culture, and community meet," says Daniele Zepparelli, Artistic Director of the Umbria Green Festival.
The project is part of the Festival's journey toward Goals 5 and 10 of the 2030 Agenda—gender equality and reducing inequalities—and aims to make the Foligno mountains a new hub for sustainable cultural tourism. Among the themes at the center of the meetings are feminism, memory, spirituality, tradition, and conflict, in dialogue with the landscape and local communities. "The Shape of Water" is made possible thanks to the contribution of the Carifol Foundation and the patronage of the Municipality of Foligno, in collaboration with the Library and the Pro Loco of Annifo.
