Marriott Expands in Canada With 3 Luxury Hotels Plus Branded Residences

Marriott and developer Truman have unveiled a luxury hotel and residential complex that's a win for them but also for Calgary's effort to create an events district downtown.

Marriott will bring its first luxury hotels and branded residences to Calgary in a $1.1 billion ($1.47 billion Canadian) project with developer Truman.

The deal includes three hotels totaling more than 700 rooms in the Western Canadian city's nascent entertainment district: a 69-story W Calgary tower, a 62-story JW Marriott Calgary, and a 320-key Autograph Collection property.

The deal highlights the increasing importance of branded residential in creating hotel projects. Together, the properties will offer nearly 360 branded residences alongside hotel rooms.

While these are only three hotels out of more than 100 in Marriott's pipeline in Canada, the signings represent the company's first luxury properties and brande
