Fires ravage Greece: “The country has become accustomed to disasters”

Forest fires have been raging across the country since the beginning of summer. The Greek press is chronicling the damage, with anger, fatalism, and frustration.
The Greek summer is ticking by with the rhythm of fires. Not a day goes by without new forest fires breaking out across the country, engulfing thousands of hectares, destroying vehicles and homes.
Carried by violent winds and severe drought, flames have ravaged Chios, Patras, Zante, Preveza, and more in recent hours. In two days, multiple forest fires have caused more than 10,000 hectares to go up in smoke.
"The Mitsotakis government, with its policies, is turning Greece into a 'desert country,'" Efsyn accuses . The opposition daily headlines "Incapable, arrogant, incorrigible" over a photo of civilians fighting the flames on the front page of its edition today.
Images of scorched earth, evacuated residents, and dazed animals are making the rounds in the Greek media. “A country in ruins. And a dangerous government. Very dangerous. It must disappear immediately, or nothing will remain standing…” the left-wing newspaper attacks.
