Messigny-et-Vantoux. The Les Terrasses du Suzon nursing home opens its doors during heatwaves

During the summer of 2003, France suffered an exceptional heatwave. The resulting excess mortality was estimated at around 15,000 deaths. In 2005, a decree required facilities housing elderly people to draw up a blue plan.
This plan "constitutes the overall risk management plan for medico-social establishments to deal with all types of crises and exceptional health situations likely to impact them", as defined in the Guide to help develop the blue plan in Ehpad (residential establishments for dependent elderly people), drawn up by the General Directorate of Health and that of Social Cohesion.
Thus, the Les Terrasses du Suzon nursing home in Messigny-et-Vantoux has a blue plan, including an action plan to deal with possible heat waves. "The residence is fully air-conditioned," says Lorène Badet, the director, who opens the doors of the residence free of charge to the elderly in the town during periods of extreme heat, every afternoon from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The opportunity to "enjoy the air-conditioned environment, benefit from hydration rounds and medical supervision, with the doctor and nurses on site," emphasizes the director, who also invites you to refresh yourself at the Troquet du Suzon , open every Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Furthermore, "Laurie de Bock, a group leader at the residence, offered to organize tours using the establishment's vehicle for elderly residents of the municipality who do not have a vehicle," said the director, who responded favorably to this proposal. "You must contact 03 80 35 27 00 to arrange a meeting point for care," said Lorène Badet.
