Moselle-Est. Sarreguemines: nearly 200 hours to sculpt the Virgin and Child in front of the Sacré-Coeur church

Many have observed him at work in the Buchholz forest, bringing strange creatures to life, chainsaw in hand. Fernand Olona has created the eagle owl , Gollum , Bilbo Baggins, a witch, and a bearded man... But for the past week, he has been off the beaten track, exposing himself to the view of all in front of the Sacré-Cœur church. A new challenge for the sculptor, who shapes the trunk of a hundred-year-old cedar tree day after day. "At the beginning of the year, the city's green spaces began pruning this tree, which was dead. I was informed," explains the Sarreguemines resident. "I came to the site and suggested that we leave 5-6 meters..."
