Dany Boon, Michael Youn, Michèle Laroque... A host of comedians are expected at the new Do You Comedy festival in Saint-Tropez.

A comedy festival in Saint-Tropez? The idea isn't new. Several well-known (and lesser-known) names have proposed the concept to successive municipalities. Now it's taking shape with Do You Comedy, scheduled for June 28th at 8 p.m., at the Citadel. Here's a five-point look at the culmination of a project driven by the smiles of everyone involved.
1 GenesisBenjamin Morgaine, often nicknamed the "third man" of the band formed by Michaël Youn and Vincent Desagnat, but also formerly a distinguished writer for the late Les Guignols de l'info , is at the origin of the project in association with local figures such as Jonathan Martinez (producer of Délices Sonores...) and Vanessa Mimran. Trust is established with the mayor who validates the idea of a festival. "They knew how to create desire around them. It was necessary to prime the pump on a site while knowing that if it works, the festival will grow in number of days and places with the cultural center and the Place des Lices" , envisages Sylvie Siri.
2 Philosophy"At this festival we are not backed by a particular talent, but by a village, Saint-Tropez, which I have always loved and which has been carrying the comedy since our dear Gendarmes!" insists Benjamin. The revelation for the Citadel, he will have it when seeing the IAM concert one summer evening in 2017. "I glimpsed all the potential of this site with the idea of organizing another festival there one day" , he continues.
3The poster that makes "Boon""Dany Boon immediately said yes, and from there, all the other talents were added," describes Benjamin, who can naturally count on his colleagues Michael Youn and Vincent Desagnat, but also on his "neighbor" from Nice, Michèle Laroque. Better than a succession of sketches, the spirit of the festival is "interaction" between artists, including Camille Lavabre, Samuel Bambi, Ilyes Djadel, Pierre Thevenoux, Matthieu Nina, Nico En Vrai, Charles Nouveau, and... Youssef Hadji, whom he met at the end of 2024 while filming locally on the set of Comme des riches with Katerine. Regarding other names that were briefly mentioned, then ultimately absent, nothing is decided. "There are those who are on the poster, and the others...", he hints. A reference to the well-known artists who could also appear via video links.
4 Behind the scenes of the partnershipDo You Comedy , which gives its name to the festival, is also an association created for the event by the aforementioned trio. The City of Saint-Tropez presents itself as a "partner" while providing active support to get the machine off the ground. The municipality will provide a €40,000 grant while ensuring free use of the Citadel. The stage equipment (sound system, light show, etc.) and sets will be the responsibility of the organizers, who will also be expected to make a video recording of the show.
5 “Competition”?When Do You Comedy is mentioned as an alternative to Marrakech du Rire or L'Humour à la Plage (Cannes), linked to Jamel Debbouze and Kev Adams, there are no clouds on the horizon. "We don't position ourselves as competitors to these festivals. The stories are different. There's room for everyone, and Jamel and Kev are friends who don't rule out performing here one day!" proclaims the trio, who intend to establish themselves in the scene.
