Brantôme-en-Périgord: Mado Pourtin-Mousnier, the artist who paints dreams

Brantôme-en-Périgord: Mado Pourtin-Mousnier, the artist who paints dreams
A painter of the imagination, Mado Pourtin-Mousnier essentially presents a world where dreams and poetry juxtapose. Jean-Pierre Pouxviel

Immerse yourself in the dreamlike and fantastical world of Mado Pourtin-Mousnier, who is exhibiting in the monks' refectory until September 5, where women, music and nature meet.

Her paintings are so beautiful and represent such a dreamlike and fantastical universe that they cannot leave anyone indifferent. A painter of the imagination, she essentially presents a world where dreams and poetry are juxtaposed.

After having produced numerous portraits in graphite since her early childhood, at the age of 22, she began to teach herself oil painting.

This painter participated in numerous salons and solo exhibitions between 1977 and 1991. Then, she abandoned her artistic activity for more than ten years. Since 2005, she has once again drawn inspiration from her favorite themes: women, music, nature, and dream worlds.

Sometimes, through the chosen themes, the audience finds itself in the fourth dimension, on the borders of reality. Mado touches the viewer, thanks to her hyper-realistic compositions but outside of space and time. Her angels have a feminine grace, imbued with sensuality, even eroticism. We are very close to the fantastical worlds of Wotjek Suidmak, Franck Frazetta or sometimes Philippe Druillet, in his most refined phases, and although she denies it, she has the themes and the originality. Be careful, one character can hide another.

"My paintings are very spiritual. They reflect my spiritual, not religious, beliefs. I find inspiration in meditation, which is a special moment of mindfulness. I add an extra touch of soul to it," the artist emphasizes.

Furthermore, Mado has written a book entitled "Itinerary of an apprentice medium or Dialogue with Whatever your name", which she dedicates on request.

Exhibition at the abbey's monks' refectory, until September 5, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. To contact Mado on her website: www.madopourtinmousnier.com or by email: [email protected] or at 06 28 27 29 00.
