Louis Sarkozy cancels his visit to the Monaco International Book Fair

The organization is in deep trouble. While the 14th edition of the Monaco International Book Fair begins in two weeks at the Grimaldi Forum – the weekend of September 6 and 7 – Louis Sarkozy canceled his participation in the literary event at the end of last week. The man who was supposed to be one of the headliners of this event – currently in pre-election campaign for the municipal elections in Menton – came to present his second book: Napoleon Bonaparte. The Empire of Books .
"What bothers me is this incorrectness," Yvette Cellario, president of the "Fabian Boisson Literary Meetings" which organizes the fair, reacted spontaneously to Monaco-Matin . In a laconic note made public today, she regretted this non-attendance for "reasons beyond our control" and deplored this cancellation "without a plausible explanation, for the participants, the visitors and the organizers having created a unanimous disappointment." The president is all the more upset because all the communication materials have already been printed.
The town hall in the line of fireWhen contacted, Louis Sarkozy's campaign team acknowledged a lack of foresight in developing his agenda and cited professional impediments.
"The fair is taking place at the same time as the Menton Associations Forum. It's an event Louis Sarkozy didn't want to miss in order to continue establishing himself in the town. It's an essential moment in Menton life," his campaign team assures.
"And it's also the start of the new school year for LCI, the channel with which Louis Sarkozy is under contract. He will therefore be in Paris on Friday morning and Saturday evening in relation to these obligations and will make the return trip in the meantime to be present on Saturday in Menton," she specifies, also lamenting the tone used by the organization in its communication.
François Bernheim and "Eddie Barclay and I" as reinforcementsIn place of Louis Sarkozy, it will be the singer, composer and producer François Bernheim who will take over. And there is no doubt that he will delight the audience at the fair with his book Eddie Barclay and Me , which paints a portrait of the producer through his eyes, that of a young collaborator from the late 1960s.
He will be present for these two days alongside more than a hundred local and international authors, including former minister Hubert Védrine, academic Andrei Makine, diplomat Vladimir Fedorovski, and mountaineer Orianne Aymard, one of the few French women to have climbed Everest.
If there's one who's trying to get a dispensation, there's another who's trying to get an invitation. While he's not invited as an author to the 14th Monaco International Book Fair, Éric Ciotti, through his publisher "Fayard," has tried to carve out a place for himself in the event's rich lineup.
In an email sent to the organization – which we were able to consult – the publisher asks, "on the advice of the team of our author Éric Ciotti who will participate" in this literary event, if the International Book Fair had had time to order enough copies of the latest work by the president of the Union of the Right for the Republic (UDR). A work entitled Je ne regrette rien: l'heure est venu de dire pourquoi – published in June 2025 – and which looks back at the second-round alliance made with the National Rally during the 2024 legislative elections.
An email to which the organization responded with a simple: "He is not invited but can come as a visitor."
