A tour of Baiona, the most elegant port in Galicia

Located south of Vigo and just a stone's throw from Portugal , this town boasts more sunny days than the Galician average. This is a significant detail when you're looking to enjoy the beach and the outdoors. The good atmosphere permeates the seafront , its seafood-focused restaurants, and the terraces, which fill up every evening with people drawn by the good food and the Atlantic breeze. All of this makes Baiona a dream destination for a getaway and the longest possible vacation.
The beaches are another of its great attractions. Ribeira Beach, quiet and family-friendly, is perfect for those traveling with children. In the heart of the town, the sandy beach of Praia Ladeira is ideal for those seeking comfort without sacrificing quality. A walk leads to Punta da Foz or Punta Ladeira , a rock formation that separates the Minho estuary from the sea and has become one of the municipality's icons.
A very interesting pastAdded to this vibrant present is a past steeped in history. Monterreal Castle , now a Parador , overlooks the bay from high above and offers picture-postcard views. Its walls still convey the strategic importance the town held for centuries.
The historic centre preserves treasures such as the former collegiate church of Santa María , from the 13th century, or the cruceiro de la Santísima Trinidad , a monumental Gothic cross covered with a canopy that marked one of the three entrances to the town and which also recalls Baiona's role in the Portuguese Coastal Route .
Here you'll also find a replica of the caravel La Pinta , which arrived in Baiona in 1493 with the news of the discovery of America. It was the first place in Europe to learn of it, and certainly also to celebrate it.
