Military Land Drones: A New Opportunity for Polish Industry

One of the main areas of cooperation between PZL Defence and the Military Institute of Armoured and Automotive Technology (WITPiS) will be modern unmanned ground vehicles (UGV), the development of which is an important element of innovative solutions in the defence sector.
Unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) offer significant potential for military operations. They can perform reconnaissance, transport, and threat neutralization tasks in high-risk environments while minimizing personnel exposure.
Technologies that meet the needs of the Polish Armed ForcesTheir development also allows for rapid integration with command and control systems, increasing the flexibility and effectiveness of military operations.
Thanks to this collaboration, both entities will be able to more quickly transform research results into specific technologies that meet the needs of the Polish Armed Forces. It also provides an opportunity to jointly promote scientific and research achievements, develop human resources competencies, and build bridges between the research and industrial sectors.
"We are building the new company's competencies in advanced defense technologies and believe that, together with WITPiS, we will create solutions that address the real needs of the modern battlefield. Unmanned technologies are playing an increasingly important role in ensuring regional security, and we want the Polish defense industry to have a strong position in this area," says Maciej Borecki, President of PZL Defense.
An important step in the pursuit of building Poland's modern defense capabilities"Our mission is to combine scientific experience with military practice. Collaboration with PZL Defence is an important step in building Poland's modern defense capabilities. Thanks to it, we will be able to translate research results into real solutions that will increase the security of our soldiers and the entire country. This collaboration will enable the creation of innovative solutions in the field of military technology, becoming a bridge between research facilities and the modern battlefield," emphasizes Col. Michał Cermuga, PhD, Eng., Director of the Military Institute of Armored and Automotive Technology (WITPiS).
The collaboration also includes utilizing WITPiS research facilities to support PZL Defence in the testing and certification of vehicles intended for the Polish Armed Forces. The institute will contribute its experience in conducting quality and reliability research, ensuring that the developed solutions meet the military's highest requirements.
PZL Defence is a defense sector company established in July 2025, specializing in the development and production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and anti-drone systems.
The company was established at the initiative of the Unimot Group, a multi-energy capital group listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, together with PZL Sędziszów, a licensed manufacturer with over 85 years of tradition in the defense sector, supplying components for military vehicles and helicopters, among other things.
A Ukrainian partner will soon acquire a 50% stake in PZL Defence, bringing unique competencies acquired in wartime conditions.
