Total solar eclipse will leave six minutes of darkness: date and locations where the phenomenon will be visible

A total solar eclipse is a phenomenon that occurs when the Sun, Moon, and Earth align in such a way that they block the passage of light and cast a shadow on the Earth's surface.
This event causes the sky to darken completely for a short period of time, as if it were dawn or dusk, and if weather conditions permit, it can be visible in different parts of the world.

According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the next total solar eclipse will occur on August 2, 2027 , and promises to be the longest in recent memory.
According to NASA's calendar, the event will be visible in several countries in southern Europe and North Africa. Experts have also noted that its maximum duration will be 6 minutes and 23 seconds.
In addition, the phenomenon is expected to begin visible over the North Atlantic, but when the Moon's shadow fully touches the surface, it will be visible from southern Spain. It will gradually cover the Strait of Gibraltar and cross Morocco, Tunisia, Portugal, Malta, Israel, France, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Libya, and Egypt.
In astronomical terms, the institution noted that the event will have the necessary characteristics to become the longest solar eclipse recorded in the 21st century.

While these types of astronomical phenomena are ideal for science because of the number of studies and discoveries that can be made, it is not safe for people to look directly at the Sun, despite the shadow it creates.
Viewing a solar eclipse through a camera lens, binoculars, or a telescope without using a special filter can cause serious eye damage.

It's important that the lenses cover your eyes well. Photo: iStock
To prevent this, it's best to use sunglasses designed for viewing the sun or a safe handheld viewer . It's never advisable to use conventional glasses for these situations.
If your solar eclipse viewing equipment is broken, scratched, or damaged in any way, it's also not possible to use it. It's best to discard it and get new ones to reduce the risk.
