Although rain may be seen by some as a moment of calm, for many people it represents the exact opposite: a drop in energy, apathy or even sadness without apparent cause. But what's behind this emotional shift? Science offers some explanations.

One of the main factors that explains the low mood on rainy days is the reduction in sunlight. When the sky is cloudy, exposure to natural light decreases, which can disrupt the functioning of the internal biological clock, or circadian rhythm.

Sunlight stimulates the production of serotonin , a neurotransmitter associated with well-being and emotional balance. With less light, Less serotonin is produced, which can cause low mood, irritability, or fatigue.

Increased melatonin
