These are the main causes of death in Mexico, according to Inegi

Between January and March of this year, 211,894 deaths were recorded in Mexico, a preliminary figure of 1,445 fewer than in the same period in 2024, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
Of these deaths, 197,242 occurred during that period; the remainder occurred in previous years. Of those recorded, 44.3% were women and 55.6% were men. In 114 cases, the sex of the person was not specified.
The death rate per 100,000 inhabitants was 162.5, lower than the 164.5 cases recorded in the same period in 2024.

For the same reference period, between 2023 and 2024 (preliminary), the rate increased by 3.3 points. Preliminary, between 2024 and 2025, it decreased by 2.0 points.
Leading causes of death nationwideHeart disease, diabetes mellitus, and malignant tumors were the three leading causes of death nationwide, for both women and men. From the fourth position onwards, differences are observed in the position of the causes of death, between the total and by sex.
This information comes from death certificates obtained from civil registry offices and forensic medical services, as well as death certificates issued by the former and statistical records from the Public Prosecutor's Offices.
