The BCG vaccine against tuberculosis will be available on this date: Health

The Ministry of Health reported that the BCG vaccine, to prevent severe forms of tuberculosis in newborns, was released and It will be available for application within an estimated 15 days, that is, almost at the end of the month.

He explained that distribution of the vaccine began this Wednesday in all health units across the country, but did not specify how many doses will be available.

Since mid-2025, shortages of this vaccine have been reported, with reports in Guanajuato, Colima, Baja California, and Nuevo León.

On July 29, Health Secretary David Kershenobich stated that the laboratory that supplies it to Mexico was to blame, as it had changed its production location to India. Therefore, Cofepris had to issue a new health permit, which would extend the delay by four more weeks. That is, they were expecting the BCG vaccine to arrive at medical units the following month.

"We already have 3.4 million BCG vaccines currently in Cofepris for release. That's enough for two years of vaccinating children," the head of the Ssa said two months ago.
