Playwright and actor Manuel Lourenzo dies at 82

The playwright and actor from Lugo, Manuel Lourenzo, died this Sunday in A Coruña at the age of 82.
"We deeply regret the passing of Manuel Lourenzo, a pillar and reference point of contemporary Galician culture, who received the Academy's honorary award in 2021. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues," the Galician Audiovisual Academy shared on the social network 'X' .
The Lugo Provincial Council also shared its condolences through its social media profile, in a post in which it sent its "full support" to Lourenzo's family and friends.
For her part, the mayor of Santiago de Compostela , Goretti Sanmartín, described Lourenzo's death as "a great loss for Galician theater and culture."
Born in Ferreira do Valadouro (Lugo) in 1943, Manuel Lourenzo was "one of the great figures" in the performing arts for his "extensive output as a playwright, for his renowned work in directing and acting, and for being the driving force behind major cultural initiatives in support of the theater," as explained by the Galician Association of Actors and Actresses.
Manuel Lourenzo also participated in films such as Entre Bateas (2001) and in television series such as Mareas vivas (1998) or Fariña (2018), where he played the drug trafficker Vicente Otero Pérez, known as Terito.
