The Tauern High Trail forms a section of the Central Alpine Trail 02 and is rightly considered the crown jewel among the high-altitude trails in the Hohe Tauern National Park region. In six stages (approx. 60 km, 4,500 m elevation gain), it follows the main Tauern ridge—an unforgettable experience for experienced mountaineers. The starting point is the Glocknerhaus near Heiligenblut, accessible by hiking bus, and the destination is the Kölnbreinsperre parking lot in the Ankogel Group. At 3,106 meters, the Zittelhaus on the Hoher Sonnblick offers spectacular views of the Rauris Valley. The location of the Hannoverhaus or Hagener Hütte also quickly makes you forget everyday life. Summit collectors also include the Schareck (3,122 m) on stage three and the Ankogel (3,250 m) on stage six. However, with rope-secured ridge passages and the crossing of the glaciated Hocharn (3254 m) on stage two, the tour requires a lot of alpine experience (or accompaniment by a mountain guide).
