Extreme heat in Italy: Highway lane closed because asphalt melts

Italy is currently experiencing particularly high temperatures. The heat is so extreme that even the asphalt is melting. This is causing traffic problems in northern Italy.
Italy is suffering from an extreme heatwave, which is even causing traffic problems in northern Italy: Between Montebello Vicentino and Sommacampagna, traffic was backed up for more than 30 kilometers because one lane towards Milan had to be closed for safety reasons, as "Südtirolnews" reports.
The heat also reached the mountains: on the Marmolata, the highest mountain in the Dolomites in Veneto, temperatures above zero were measured at 3,343 meters.

Authorities advise caution and avoid overexertion. They recommend that residents and tourists prepare for the persistent heat and take appropriate measures to minimize potential health risks.
"It's no wonder many travelers are thinking twice about booking literal 'hotspots' like Sicily or the South of France, which are prone to heat waves, in July or August," the magazine notes. Instead, destinations like Scandinavia, Iceland, and the Baltics are becoming increasingly popular.
