A new day has just dawned when little Zoe (Tesla Tekin), her face covered in soot, almost runs into a car in a Dortmund housing estate. Shortly thereafter, her mother is discovered dead in the house from smoke inhalation. Her father, Jens Hielscher (Sebastian Zimmler), has an alibi, but her half-brother, Finn (Caspar Hoffmann), has disappeared without a trace. It soon becomes clear: the fire was deliberately set, but a motive remains unclear. The deceased is Meike Gebken (Nadja Becker), who had been living with her daughter in a women's shelter for a month.
